First Reboot the appliance, and during boot process press “e”
Add the highlighted part in like below
press F10 to boot
Unmount the / partition
umount /Now to reset password execute the command below and enter new password
passwd root
If you need to unlock the account
/sbin/pam_tally2 --reset --user root
